J. Daniel Sawyer is the rather disturbed founder of the Blenderwars filmmaking community, which he started to advance the nefarious cause of the World Computing Revolution ™. He is (a further symptom of this pathological illness) an enthusiastic advocate of all forms of new media and guerilla distribution techniques, and further compounds these crimes by writing articles on these topics for LinuxJournal and Linux+ magazines.His deep pathologies manifest in other ways as well: he is the author of Sculpting God, and his current literary endeavors include: Predestination and Other Games of Chance, a space opera/espionage thriller; The Sophia Project: Strong Women in World Mythology, a fine art photography book retelling the stories of the great female heroes in world mythology. |
When he’s not indulging his psychosis or happily encouraging his burgeoning case of carpal tunnel syndrome by feeding his writing habit, he spends his time doing fine art photography, video production and editing, and podcast production through his media company ArtisticWhispers Productions. He is currently in post production on his first feature film, Hunting Kestral, which takes place in the same universe as the forthcoming podcast novel Predestination and Other Games of Chance.

Ejnjoyed your article on video editing software in the March issue of LJ. Question: are you familiar with any good screencasting software for Linux? Something equivalent to Camtasia or Snapz Pro?

For screencasting - as long as you don’t need real-time broadcast
abilities xvidcap, gtk-recordmydesktop, and screenkast all work pretty
well, as does invoking the following from the command line:
ffmpeg -f x11grab -s cif -i :0.0 /tmp/out.mpg
If you want to grab something that uses openGL, the only game in town
I’m aware of is a program called “yukon.”

Hi, your Sculpting God podcast is great. Very interesting stories, but the promos between are too loud. Is there anyway you can level the volume with the stories?
I usually listen to podcasts as I’m laying in bed at night and the difference in volume levels is really jarring.
